What does hanging a door and fitting trim involve?
Hanging a door means fitting it into its frame so it swings and latches cleanly. Trim then covers the gaps and finishes the edges. The steps:
- Take out the old. An old door, or old trim that is coming off, is removed and disposed of.
- Hang the door. The frame is checked for plumb and square, the hinges are set, and the door goes in with all its hardware.
- Fit sliding closet doors. They go in with their tracks and hardware.
- Install the casing. The casing is cut to fit around the frame, with tight joints at the corners, and fixed to the frame and the wall.
- Install the baseboard and shoe moulding. Baseboard goes in wherever it is missing, and shoe moulding runs along the floor.
- Fill and caulk. Nail holes are filled and the seams are caulked, so the trim is ready for paint.
What counts as trim and millwork?
Trim and millwork are the shaped pieces that finish a room: the casing around a door, the baseboard along the wall and the shoe moulding where the floor meets the baseboard. Reborn Renos installs them as finish carpentry, cut so the joints close tight. Painting comes after: see interior painting.
Will you hang a single door, and how is it priced?
Yes. No job is too small, down to one door. Every job is priced with you before work starts: small jobs at a set price, bigger jobs with a written quote. The quote is written line by line, each line with its own price, and HST (13%) is added at the end. See what a quote looks like.
Are you insured, and is the work guaranteed?
Yes to both. Reborn Renos is insured and covered by WSIB. Your satisfaction is guaranteed, as written in your contract. Reborn Renos is a new business, run by an owner with seven years in the trade. The common questions have the same answers.
Do you do doors and trim for rentals and businesses too?
Yes. Landlords, property managers and small businesses get the same doors, trim and millwork, between tenants and as repairs. See income property maintenance for on-call repairs.
