What does a full interior renovation include?
It takes a room or a whole floor from framing to the last piece of trim. The order changes with the job, but it usually runs like this:
- Take out the old. Old flooring, trim, cabinets and counters are removed and disposed of.
- Build the walls. A new room is framed, and a new wall gets drywall on both sides, taped and mudded. Drywall an electrician has cut open is patched after the electrician.
- Paint. Walls, ceilings, doors and trim get two coats.
- Lay the floor. The new floor goes in, with shoe moulding wherever it does.
- Install the kitchen. New kitchen cabinets go in level and true. A countertop, a sink and faucet and appliances can be part of the job.
- Hang the doors and finish the trim. Doors, sliding closet doors, casing and baseboard go in.
Do you only take big jobs, and how is the price set?
No. Full interior construction is the biggest job Reborn Renos takes, but no job is too small. Every job is priced with you before work starts: small jobs at a set price, bigger jobs with a written quote. The quote is written line by line, each line with its own price, and HST (13%) is added at the end. See what a quote looks like.
Does an interior renovation need a permit?
It can. The City of Hamilton lists these under Projects that Require a Building Permit
(City of Hamilton):
interior alterations including finishing or partially finishing a basement or other spaces
relocating rooms/creation of new rooms
The walls, framing and drywall page quotes Ontario's Building Code Act too. Ask the building division in your town about your job.
Are you insured, and is the work guaranteed?
Yes to both. Reborn Renos is insured and covered by WSIB. Your satisfaction is guaranteed, as written in your contract. Reborn Renos is a new business, run by an owner with seven years in the trade. The common questions have the same answers.
Do you renovate rentals and commercial spaces too?
Yes. Landlords, property managers and small businesses get the same interior work, for apartments, rental units and commercial spaces. See apartment and commercial renovations.
